  • Correctors of bone and cartilage metabolism

Pharmacodynamic properties

Chondroitin sulfate is the main component of the proteoglycans that make up the cartilage matrix together with the collagen fibers.

It has chondroprotective properties, suppresses the activity of enzymes that cause the degradation of articular cartilage, stimulates the production of proteoglycans by chondrocytes, enhances metabolic processes in cartilage and subchondral bone, affects the phosphorus-calcium metabolism in cartilage tissue, stimulates its regeneration, participates in the construction of the main substance of bone and cartilage tissue. It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, helps to reduce the release of inflammatory mediators and pain factors into the synovial fluid through synoviocytes and macrophages of the synovial membrane, suppresses the secretion of LTV4 and PGE2.

The drug helps to restore the cartilage surfaces of the joints, prevents the collapse of connective tissue, normalizes the production of joint fluid, which leads to improved joint mobility, reducing the intensity of pain. Having a structural similarity to heparin, it can potentially prevent the formation of fibrin clots in the synovial and subchondral microcirculatory bed.

Pharmacokinetic properties

Chondroitin sulfate is easily absorbed by intravenous administration, after 30 minutes it is found in significant concentrations in the blood, after 15 minutes - in the synovial fluid. Cmax it is reached after 1 h after administration, then the concentration of the drug slowly decreases for 2 days. The drug accumulates mainly in the cartilage tissue (Cmax in the articular cartilage is reached after 48 hours). It is excreted by the kidneys within 24 hours.
