  • Respiratory stimulants

Pharmacodynamic properties

Cardiamidum stimulates the central nervous system and especially the centers of the medulla oblongata — respiratory and vasomotor. The excitation of the respiratory center is partly due to the reflex effect associated with the excitation of the chemoreceptors of the carotid glomeruli. Under the influence of Cardiamidum, breathing becomes faster and deeper (especially if it is depressed), blood pressure increases if there is an initial hypotension.

The drug does not have a direct stimulating effect on the heart and vasoconstrictor effect. In large (toxic) doses, Cardiamidum can cause clonic seizures.
