Therapeutic indications

Hypotension (caused by taking psychotropic drugs, symptomatic in the period of convalescence after surgery, childbirth, etc.), orthostatic hypotension (with disorders of the regulation of blood circulation and circulatory dysregulations, with reactions such as sympathicotonia and asympathicotonia, idiopathic, secondary), hypotonic reactions (with changes in the weather, morning, with a predisposition to low blood pressure), spontaneous urination (with disorders of the sphincter function of the bladder).

Pharmacotherapeutic group

  • Alpha-adrenergic agonist

Pharmacodynamic properties

Increases the tone and peripheral resistance of arterial vessels, increases blood pressure and prevents (in orthostatic disorders) stagnation of blood in the venous bed. This leads to the maintenance of a constant level of the volume of circulating blood and blood pressure, an increase in blood delivery to the organs and the elimination of orthostatic disorders. It does not directly affect the activity of the heart, the central nervous system (does not cause sleep disorders). Improves the function of the bladder sphincter.

Pharmacokinetic properties

When used orally, it is rapidly absorbed, becoming an active metabolite. After intravenous injection, the effect develops relatively slowly and persists for a long time. T1/2 the active metabolite in the plasma is 3-4 hours. Due to the very low lipophilicity, it practically does not penetrate through the BBB. Midodrin and its metabolites are excreted in the urine almost completely within 24 hours.
