What is the most important information I should know about Sildec DM Syrup?
Sildec DM Syrup is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to any of its ingredients. Sympathomimetic amines are contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease and patients on monoamine oxidase (MAO) Inhibitor therapy. Antihistamines are contraindicated in patients with narrow angle glaucoma, urinary retention, peptic ulcer, and during an asthma attack.
Dextromethorphan (Sildec DM Syrup) should not be used in patients receiving a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug.

The most frequent adverse reactions to Sildec DM Syrup include sedation; dryness of mouth, nose, and throat; thickening of bronchial secretins; dizziness. Other adverse reactions may include:
Dermatologic - Urticaria, drug rash, photosensitivity, and pruritus.
Cardiovascular System - Hypotension, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, palpitations, tachycardia, pallor.
Central Nervous System (CNS) - Distrubed coordination, tremor, irritability, insomnia, visual disturbances, weakness, nervousness, convulsions, headache, euphoria, dysphoria, restlessness, insomnia, hallucinations, and CNS depression.
G.U. System - Urinary frequency, difficult urination.
G.I. System - Epigastric discomfort, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
Respiratory System - Respiratory difficulty, tightness of chest and wheezing, shortness of breath.
Hematologic System - Hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.
Sildec DM Syrup is indicated for symptomatic relief of coughs and upper respiratory symptoms, including nasal congestion, associated with allergy or the common cold.
Brompheniramine (Sildec DM Syrup) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.
Dextromethorphan (Sildec DM Syrup) is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.
Guaifenesin (Sildec DM Syrup) is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.
Phenylephrine (Sildec DM Syrup) is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose).
Brompheniramine (Sildec DM Syrup), Dextromethorphan (Sildec DM Syrup), Guaifenesin (Sildec DM Syrup), and Phenylephrine (Sildec DM Syrup) is a combination medicine used to treat cough, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes caused by allergies, the common cold, or the flu.
This medicine will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.
Brompheniramine (Sildec DM Syrup), Dextromethorphan (Sildec DM Syrup), Guaifenesin (Sildec DM Syrup), and Phenylephrine (Sildec DM Syrup) may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

5 to 10 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 6 doses per day.
Usual Pediatric Dose for Cough and Nasal Congestion
Brompheniramine (Sildec DM Syrup) 2 mg/DM 5 mg/Guaifenesin (Sildec DM Syrup) 50 mg/Phenylephrine (Sildec DM Syrup) 5 mg/5 mL:
>= 12 yrs: 5 to 10 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 6 doses per day.
>= 6 yrs to <12 yrs: 2.5 to 5 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 6 doses per day.
>= 2 yrs to <6 yrs: 1.25 to 2.5 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 6 doses per day.

What other drugs will affect Sildec DM Syrup?
If you are taking this medication under your doctor's direction, your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Taking certain MAO inhibitors with this medication may cause a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction. Avoid taking isocarboxazid, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine during treatment with this medication. Most MAO inhibitors should also not be taken for two weeks before treatment with this medication. Ask your doctor when to start or stop taking this medication.
If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this medication. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors within 2 weeks of starting or stopping this medication.
Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially: antihistamines applied to the skin (such as diphenhydramine cream, ointment, spray), antispasmodics (e.g., atropine, belladonna alkaloids), beta blockers (e.g., metoprolol, atenolol), drugs for Parkinson's disease (e.g., anticholinergics such as benztropine, trihexyphenidyl), guanethidine, certain inhaled anesthetics (e.g., halothane), methyldopa, reserpine, scopolamine, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, desipramine).
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you also take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine for sleep or anxiety (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., chlorpromazine, risperidone, amitriptyline, trazodone).
Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may contain ingredients that could affect your heart rate/blood pressure or cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.
This medication may interfere with certain medical/laboratory tests (including brain scan for Parkinson's disease), possibly causing false test results. Make sure laboratory personnel and all your doctors know you use this drug.
