Amylnitrite

Amylnitrite Medicine

Top 20 drugs with the same components:

Overdose

Symptoms: in doses of 5-10 drops-severe hyperemia of the skin of the face, intense headache, tachycardia, in doses of more than 10 drops-cyanosis, a feeling of suffocation, myasthenic syndrome, nausea, vomiting, hyperhidrosis, anxiety, decreased blood pressure.

Treatment: the appointment of oxygen under high pressure, blood transfusion, if necessary — the appointment of vasoconstrictors, but the use of epinephrine should be avoided.

Contraindications

hypersensitivity,

severe anemia,

thyrotoxicosis,

arterial hypotension,

collapse,

shock,

acute myocardial infarction with arterial hypotension,

hemorrhagic stroke,

intracranial hypertension,

angle-closure glaucoma with increased intraocular pressure,

pregnancy,

lactation period,

children's age (up to 5 years).

With caution: patients with methemoglobin reductase deficiency and other disorders of the transition of methemoglobin to hemoglobin.

Incompatibilities

Ethanol increases the severity of side effects (possibly a pronounced decrease in blood pressure up to collapse).

When used simultaneously with other drugs that cause a decrease in blood pressure, it is possible to increase the orthostatic hypotensive effects of amyl nitrite.

Amyl nitrite eliminates the effects of epinephrine and norepinephrine.

Pharmaceutical form

Transparent, yellowish, easily mobile, volatile, highly flammable liquid with a fruity smell.

Undesirable effects

Allergic reactions, transient headache, dizziness, hyperemia of the face and upper torso, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, involuntary urination and defecation, tachycardia, asthenia, myasthenic syndrome, anxiety, increased sweating, decreased blood pressure, possible phenomena of euphoria. Rarely-orthostatic hypotension. When prescribed in high doses-methemoglobinemia, with prolonged use-addiction (tolerance).

Special instructions

Opening the ampoules is accompanied by a light pop due to the increased pressure of vapors formed in the ampoule during storage and heating. Amyl nitrite vapors form explosive mixtures with air. Medical personnel and persons serving the patient, you should avoid inhaling the vapors.

There are known cases of abuse of amyl nitrite in order to achieve euphoria and as a stimulant of sexual function, which is accompanied by the risk of poisoning.

Therapeutic indications

Poisoning with prussic acid and its salts (cyanides).

Pharmacotherapeutic group

  • Nitrates and nitrate-like agents

Pharmacodynamic properties

Vasodilating agent. Activates guanylate cyclase, increases the content of cGMP in the vascular wall, relaxes smooth muscles and reduces vascular tone.

The central vasodilating effect is due to the suppression of the vasomotor center. Expands the peripheral, especially the coronary and cerebral vessels, reduces the need for oxygen in the myocardium, improves coronary blood circulation. It forms methemoglobin in the blood, which binds the CN ion, resulting in the formation of non-toxic cyanomethemoglobin and prevents the defeat of tissue respiratory enzymes when poisoning with prussic acid or its salts. The vasodilating effect begins in 30-60 seconds, reaches a maximum in 1-2 minutes, lasts 3-5 minutes (sometimes up to 10 minutes).

Pharmacokinetic properties

After inhalation, it is completely adsorbed in the pulmonary alveoli. It is rapidly metabolized in the liver. It is excreted by the kidneys (approximately 33%).

Special precautions for storage

In a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 10 °C.

Keep out of reach of children.
