Overdose

Symptoms: agitation, dizziness, respiratory depression, low blood pressure, tachycardia, dyspeptic disorders.

Treatment: artificial lung ventilation, symptomatic therapy.

A specific antidote-Naloxone (can be used when the dose is exceeded by 100 times or more).

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to one of the components of the drug,

bronchial asthma,

pregnancy,

breastfeeding period,

children under 4 years of age.

With caution:

liver function disorders.

Incompatibilities

Synergistic interaction with narcotic antitussive drugs and other drugs that depress the central nervous system. The possibility of interaction of dextromethorphan with MAO inhibitors is not excluded.

It is advisable to exclude the drug Alex Plus in patients taking MAO inhibitors.

Pharmaceutical form

Round, flat orange-brown lozenges with "Alex"engraved on each side.

Undesirable effects

Drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, itching, urticaria.

Special instructions

Persons who use the drug should refrain from driving a car, working with mechanisms.

Acute and chronic respiratory diseases, accompanied by dry irritating cough.

Pharmacodynamic properties

Dextromethorphan has an antitussive effect. Suppressing the excitability of the cough center, suppresses cough of any origin. It does not have narcotic, analgesic and hypnotic effects.

Terpinghydrate has an expectorant effect, increases the secretory function of the epithelial glands of the respiratory tract, increases the volume of secretion and lowers the viscosity of the secreted secretion.

Levomenthol has a moderate antispasmodic action. Relieves the symptoms of acute rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis and bronchitis.

The onset of action is 10-30 minutes after administration, the duration is within 5-6 hours in adults and up to 6-9 hours in children.

Pharmacokinetic properties

After oral administration, dextromethorphan is completely absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, and is metabolized in the liver. Cmax in the blood plasma, it is reached after 2 hours. Up to 45% of dextromethorphan is excreted in the urine.

Terpin hydrate is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after ingestion. The drug circulates in the blood in an unchanged form and is excreted through the respiratory tract, with urine and sweat, to which it gives a specific smell. Part of the drug undergoes oxidation in the body and is excreted in the urine in the form of phenols together with glucuronic acid.

Fertility, pregnancy and lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy. Breastfeeding should be discontinued for the duration of treatment.

Dosage (Posology) and method of administration

Inside. Adults — 2-5 lozenges 3-4 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 20 lozenges. Children from 4 to 6 years — 1 lozenge 3-4 times a day, the maximum daily dose-4 lozenges, from 7 to 12 years-1-2 lozenges 3-4 times a day, the maximum daily dose-8 lozenges.
